Training and Research ship of University of Kyrenia R/V Teal Jr and Training and Research ship of Near East University R/V Teal Near East have registered to SeaDataNet (PAN-EUROPEAN Infrastructure for Ocean and Marine Data Management) organization and to the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) which is based in Denmark and considered as the world’s first international governmental organisation.

Near East University and University of Kyrenia are jointly conducting marine sciences and marine ecosystem projects in Northern Cyprus and related international waters by using R/V Teal Near East and R/V Teal Jr. These scientific studies are entered and saved in the SeaDataNet database where all the data collected from the countries bordering in European seas are shared, processed and archived with participation and contributions of 35 countries, more than 600 governmental organisations and private institutions.

In addition to those, the members of the science team of R/V Teal Near East and R/V Teal Jr became member of ICES, a network of more than 5,000 scientists from over 690 marine institutes in 20 member countries, which conducts marine sciences and marine ecosystem research all over the world. Along with this membership opportunity, team members and ships will access, share and make progress in the network.

University of Kyrenia and Near East University are the first from Cyprus to register to the European Union SeaDataNet organization and the ICES Platform to share data from Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Both universities have taken a concrete step by working in international platforms to develop scientific knowledge and to increase cooperation with international institutes not only in the region but all over the world.
